Ontario’s Ring of Fire region is viewed by many in the mining and exploration industry to represent Canada’s next base metal mining camp. Between 2002-2017 exploration companies discovered eight deposits with calculated resources and/or reserves of Ni-Cu-PGE, chromite and Cu-Zn, as well as over 70 occurrences of various commodities including gold. All of these discoveries were made from remote exploration camps, in covered terrane that is logistically challenging to explore. Noront’s flagship Eagle’s Nest Ni-Cu-PGE project, along with its highly prospective Ni targets in the region has garnered significant attention recently as major mining companies vie for future Ni assets to feed the burgeoning EV battery market. Based on our understanding of the geology in the area, Noront views the potential for additional discovery of high-grade large tonnage Ni deposits, particularly at detection depths beyond those of traditional AEM surveys, to be quite high.
